Looking for an unbiased Doba review to find out if their drop shipping service is for you? If you’re ready to see the good, the bad, and the ugly, you’re in the right place to learn what the service is all about.
Let’s start with the basics first.
Doba is a drop shipping service that was founded in 2002. The company has headquarters in Lehi, Utah. Today, their catalog has over two million products from thousands of different suppliers.
So, is Doba right for you or is it just a scam and not worth looking trying?
What’s drop shipping and how does it work?
Drop shipping is a type of retail fulfillment where you don’t inventory the products that you’re selling. This process reduces the overall risk by enabling you to collect orders prior to you having to purchase the products.
You never have to have possession of the product. For example, you make the sale, than you purchase the product from the manufacturer, and finally have them ship directly to your customer.
Drop shipping is great for beginners as you don’t have to ship or store any products. It reduces the overhead expenses as well.
Is Doba a scam?
Just do a quick Google search and it will yield plenty of Doba reviews that praise the service, stating it’s the best thing out there. You’ll also find ex-customers claiming the service is a total scam and not worth wasting your time.
I’ve used the service so I can at least tell you that it’s not a scam. I can also tell you that it’s not a perfect solution, it has flaws.
The best thing to do is to try the service and decide on your own.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that when people fail, they tend to complain. It’s human nature to blame something so you don’t end up a failure.
Thousands of eBay sellers and various other business owners are using Doba to source products for their business. If it’s working for them, it can work for you too.
I was able to find several Doba testimonials from entrepreneurs like you and I:
How does Doba work?
It’s important to understand what Doba is and how it works prior to making your decision.
Doba is a drop shipping service that enables you to drop ship products directly to your customers. Drop shipping is good because it reduces a lot of the costs (things like shipping fees, storage costs, packaging, etc.).
Once you log in to your Doba account, you’ll be able to search for various products that are all available for drop shipping. Each individual product page will tell you all of the information about each product, shipping estimates, and any other additional fees you may incur.
That’s the basics of how things work.
My experience with Doba
The idea of working for corporate America was never appealing to me. I always dreamed of owning my own business and having financial stability to travel the world.
During my college days, I met a very intelligent instructor that owned his own business and pointed me to drop shipping. After doing some research, I was able to find several drop shipping companies. I was scammed by a few.
I decided to try Doba. I listed a couple of products on eBay and the orders began piling up. I quickly expanded my inventory and was able to become an eBay Powerseller and a featured merchant on Amazon’s marketplace.
I didn’t make thousands of dollars overnight. I lost money on products. It took me a few months to learn the entire process and make a decent profit.
Drop shipping is still a business model that can make you money. You have to research the competition and sell the right products. It’s a lot harder than it sounds, though.
Can I make a profit?
We’re all in it to make money.
There are several factors that are going to affect your profit margins. Making a profit is going to vary by product and niche. Competition will also play a huge role.
Here’s the deal.
If you plan on selling popular items with a lot of competition, it’s going to be very difficult to make a profit. If you do your research and are able to target a profitable niche, you’ll be able to make money.
You’ll have to familiarize yourself with all of the fees as well prior to calculating your overall profits. Pay attention to additional drop shipping fees, eBay and Amazon closing fees, if selling on their marketplace platforms.
Here are some of their popular products you’ll be able to find in their catalog:
Support and resources
Doba’s customer service is available via phone and email. You can contact their support team by calling 1.877.321.3622.
Their resource page consists of blog posts, business guides, tools, and whitepapers. I found their whitepapers useful as the section contained custom articles that helped me run and expand my online business and presence.
Their support team knows drop shipping very well and is always willing to help. However, when it comes time to cancel your account, they’ll give you a hard time and try and convince you to stay.
Other than that, I didn’t have any other issues dealing with their customer support.

Doba offers four monthly plan tiers, starting from $19.95/month. Here’s a better breakdown of each plan:

At this time, you can’t cancel your account via email or any other method [Update November 2015: You can now cancel your account online].
Here’s what the DOBA Account Representative stated when I asked about cancelling my account:

You must log into your Doba account a minimum of 4 times per month or place at least one order in a month. If these terms are not met, you will be given a prorated refund.”

It’s also fair to note that Doba has 185 closed complaints in the past 3 years. These complaints pertained mostly to issues with advertising, billing, and problems with the service itself.
- There are no order minimums. Order as much or as little as you want.
You have to call their Member Services Department to cancel your account. There isn’t an option to cancel online or via email[You can now cancel your account online or by calling them].
- Doba isn’t cheap and you might have to sell a few products just to break even.
- Doba has a lot of negative reviews floating over the internet.
Is Doba worth the investment?
Finding products to sell online is very difficult. Importing from China is risky.
A dedicated individual with a lot of time on their hands can easily find suppliers on their own. If you have time to find suppliers on your own, you might not want to invest in a service like Doba. However, if you go with this route, make sure you take extra precautions so you don’t get ripped off.
On the other hand, Doba is ideal for those that don’t like taking risks and want to save a lot of time. The good thing about Doba is that all of the products are viewable from one central location and can easily be added to your online store via various integrations.
If you’re new to selling online and are having trouble finding products, I’d recommend looking into a service like Doba.
